Do you know that you cannot be a Christian with your own power and effort? There is no real Christian life without the presence and action of the Holy Spirit. We cannot even become a Christian if the Spirit of God does not do His work in us. This is what Jesus told Nicodemus, a Pharisee and member of the Jewish ruling council: “Jesus answered, “I tell you the truth, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless he is born of water and the Spirit. Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit. You should not be surprised at my saying, ‘You must be born again.’ The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit.” John 3:5-8.” Jesus is clear when He affirms to Nicodemus that you can only be born in the Kingdom of God by the Spirit. It is the Spirit that will bring the message of the gospel into our hearts. This is a necessity because we are all dead in our sins and transgressions as Paul states in Ephesians: “But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions — it is by grace you have been saved. Ephesians 2:4-5.”  Because we were dead spiritually, the Spirit enables us to listen to the message. The Spirit produces life in us, opening our eyes, ears, and mind to see, to listen, and to understand the Word of God, helping us to believe in the Gospel.

As you can see, we cannot begin our Christian life without the work of the Holy Spirit. This is what happens in the spiritual and invisible world. But in this side of the world, in the visible side, we just felt the attraction for the message and for Jesus. We feel the need to hear more. We start seeking a deeper spiritual development for ourselves, without knowing that it is the Spirit of God who is working behind the scenes to draw us toward Jesus.

My friend, maybe you do not know when you started to walk toward Jesus. Maybe you do not know what was the initial step. You just know that you are following Jesus, but that could not happen without the Holy Spirit. It is He who is working inside of you, applying the works and benefits conquered by Christ in your life.

Be thankful and surrender to Him.

Have a blessed week,

Pastor Lucas
