Now That He Is Alive…

He is risen! Yes, He is risen indeed! Yesterday all over the world that statement was made in one way or the other. Every Christian community celebrated the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. The biggest challenge for us is the day after. What are we supposed to do after Easter Sunday? If Jesus is alive, and I really believe that He is, what should the Christians do? What is the church supposed to do after the resurrection?

The disciples did three simple things after Jesus showed up alive, and those things should be duplicated today by every church and community of faith. These are what we as Christians should do now that He is alive…

1. We Worship – The first thing that disciples did when they saw Jesus was worship Him. Thomas is the one who can help us with a right attitude. This is his reaction when he saw Jesus, his risen master, “Thomas said to him, “My Lord and my God!” John 20:28.” Every time that we come together, we do that because we believe that Jesus is alive, and He will receive our worship. We do not come to celebrate His memory, or His deeds in the past, or to tell each other how good He was. We come, sing, and pray, because He is alive and present in our gatherings. So worship is the first and most important thing to do now that He is alive.

2. We Proclaim – The second thing that the disciples did was to proclaim. By the way, that was the expected reaction of someone who saw His master die and then a few days later encountered Him alive. You just could not contain yourself. On top of that Jesus commanded them to proclaim to everyone what they saw and heard. Jesus asked them to be witnesses, and this is what Peter said in his first sermon: “God has raised this Jesus to life, and we are all witnesses of the fact. Acts 2:32.”  Proclamation also means to make disciples, to make followers of the living Christ. We are called to tell everybody that Jesus is alive, He is the Savior and Lord of our lives

3. We Teach – The third thing the disciples did was to teach the believers about the Lord and His Word. The disciples needed to learn how to believe and how to live the new life that they just started. This teaching happened in different settings, as the we learn from this verse: “Day after day, in the temple courts and from house to house, they never stopped teaching and proclaiming the good news that Jesus is the Christ. Acts 5:42.” We, as Christians should also teach others about our risen Lord. We should teach them the Scriptures and how to live a Christian life that will glorify our Lord and Savior.

I know that there are many other things that the disciples did and we too should do, but these three are the most important activities of the Christian church. So, no matter where you are in your faith journey, now that He is alive, we should worship, proclaim, and teach.

Have a blessed week,

Pastor Lucas
