Today on the news, I learned about a new phone application created by a frustrated mom who could not get her son to answer her calls. It is called “Ignore no More.” This is how the application works: If your children do not answer your call, you have the ability to lock their cell phone. “When you lock your child’s phone with Ignore No More your child has only two options – he or she can call you back, or call for an emergency responder. No calls to friends, no text, no games, notta’ until they call you back. When they do, you can unlock their phone if you choose to do so. How’s that for parental control?”
I do not need to tell you that kids do not like it at all, but moms are very excited and happy with this new app. Some kids can get so involved in their own world, or with their friends, that they forget totally about some important things that they were supposed to do, or places that they were supposed to be, or to let their parents know their whereabouts. Parents, on the other hand, can become very frustrated with the silence of their kids, since they do not know what is going on or where they are. This application will help some parents to get in touch with their kids, and help some kids to learn that there are calls that should be answered, if not there will be consequences.
I started thinking about that and realized that in our relationship with God is the same thing. This kind of attitude is not new, the only thing new is the approach and technology. In the Bible we have many texts and stories that shows this kind of attitude between God and His children. One of the most significants for me is found in Amos 4: 4-12. In this prophesy God is telling His children that they should seek Him if they wanted to live. And it is interesting that God numbered many times when He tried to contact His children and get them to answer His call, but they did not answer Him, even when things became ugly and desperate. At the end of the text God, through the prophet says: “Therefore this is what I will do to you, Israel, and because I will do this to you, prepare to meet your God, O Israel Amos 4:12.” As you can see God is activating His “Ignore nor More”, to have the attention of His children.
Maybe you and I sometimes go through situations in our lives, and we do not know why those things are going on. We analyze, and try to figure it out the reasons for things in our lives to be blocked. We did not know that God was calling us to be closer to Him, to give us some advice, or just to have a better relationship with Him, and we were ignoring Him. Well, no more. Unless we learn that God has His hands on our lives and that He can get our attention using anything at His disposal. We will be locked down, and some areas of our lives will be blocked.
This year, try to listen to God’s calls and answer them. You will know how easy life can be.
Have a blessed week,
